Given that we are in the midst of the cold and flu season, and that I’ve been lying in bed for the past few days recovering from one, I thought I would write about how acupuncture can support immunity. Here are a few things to consider: Our immune system functions best when we are treating our bodies well — eating well, resting well, exercising, and having time for play. Lack of sleep, stress, anxiety, bad eating habits, all serve to weaken our immune response.
Regular acupuncture treatments can help keep your immune response higher — having a treatment gives your body a chance to experience deep rest, which helps to boost your immunity. Secondly, if you come down with something, acupuncture can help to boost your immune response. Acupuncture works by prompting and promoting your body’s healing response so it is a safe and effective way to support recovery from illness and imbalance.
Just keep in mind though that when you’re in the contagious phase of an illness it’s best to stay home and rest for a few days before coming into the community clinic.
Be well!
