Today is the 70th anniversary of the world’s first nuclear attack. The day a nuclear bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan killing 140,000 people, more than half in an instant. Because I am originally from the United States it is an anniversary that I have been keenly aware of since my mid-twenties when I used to stand in silent vigil outside my local post office every year to remember. Considering that there are still more than 15,000 nuclear weapons ready and waiting, it is vital that we remember this day, as well as the subsequent bombing of Nagasaki which took place a few days later, important we remember and commit to the elimination of all nuclear weapons forever. Say a prayer for peace today. — Michael
