I understand if rolling on to your mat for 7 am sounds like torture for you -but there is really something to be said for doing your practice first thing when you wake up in the morning.
Yoga is beneficial and healing no matter what time of day you do it but not only is it the most peaceful time with little distraction, it also sets the mood, clears your mind, and increases your energy and endurance for the rest of your day.
I wanted to take the time to outline some of the many benefits that come with an early morning practice in hope that you will be inspired to give it a try!
Here are my top 3 reasons why I love to practice in the morning:
1. Helps you accomplish more and be more productive throughout the day
I find as my day goes on the time tends to slip away and responsibility takes over. Planning to practice at the same time each morning helps simplify the goal of practice while improving the rest of your day as you start it feeling energized. Plus, you’ve already accomplished something and it’s only 8 am!
2. Fills your body with fresh oxygen first thing upon waking
Breathing first thing in the morning stimulates your entire body and mind. All that fresh oxygen helps wake up the brain, much like coffee, yet the effects of conscious breathing last all day! Even on days when I wake up feeling tired and less energized it often shifts by the end of practice.
3. Better Sleep Habits
Personally, I think the early morning classes actually start the night before. When you commit to getting up and practicing first thing in the morning, you are much more likely to make your bed time a priority. We all know how important sleep is to our health and an early morning practice will help ensure you get the rest you need!
See you bright and early!
