For me one of the greatest parts of traveling is the return home. This is especially true when one is coming home to Victoria, BC. The stunning beauty and the slow pace of the ferry ride home always reminds me that there are few places in the world as special as Vancouver Island. I was a bit hesitant to leave as I embarked on my August road trip. I hadn’t seen some of my family in 4 years, and the thought of driving 7000 kilometres home made me a little nervous! My attitude slowly shifted though as I settled into being out of my routines, allowed myself to feel the comforting connection of people and places. The memory of those experiences, and beauty I witnessed, fills my heart to over-flowing: connection with family and friends, visiting cottage country, gazing out at mighty Lake Superior, a cool late summer dip at Lake of the Woods, hours of staring out at the prairies and the endless multi-coloured sky, watching the approaching ancient mountains. I felt like I was home for the entire journey. But the one home I was most grateful for, the one I was happiest to return home to, was hemma. Thank you all for sharing in my vision and for carrying on in the usual way while I took some much needed time away. Michael
