Nine years ago, we set out on a vision to create something unique and yet ordinary. We wanted to create a social business that served our community and provided meaningful work to its staff and employees. Our goal was to create a space that would be welcoming, inviting, and useful to people from all walks of life — age, class, race, gender, sexual orientation, and any other way someone might define themselves. Our service was yoga and community acupuncture. A lot of folks thought we were crazy — many could not imagine receiving acupuncture, much less in a lazy-boy recliner surrounded by fellow patients, and yoga studios seemed to be popping up on every street corner. I can remember a conversation we had with a perspective accountant who laughed at us when we presented our plan for a sliding scale fee structure — “that will never work!”, “your customers will never understand it!”
We started out willing to try a lot of things everyone else thought were odd, yet through it all we held onto one thought — that of making a difference in people’s lives, of creating a business that truly served. Nine years in and I’d say we have succeeded with our goal, and that today the need for a community healing space that is affordable and accessible is as important, if not more so, than it was nine years ago! We are deeply grateful to all of you who have shared in our vision and participated in this unique healing community! None of this would be possible without your involvement and support!
Come celebrate with us on Sunday October 16th with cake, prizes, sales, and fun! Check out what’s on sale.
Thank you for your continued support,
Michael
